Under the direct supervision of the Aquatic Supervisor, performs duties necessary to support the Recreation Division to ensure the proper operation and maintenance of City swimming pools and aquatic centers.


  1. Performs duties necessary to support the Recreation Division to ensure the proper operation and maintenance of City swimming pools and aquatic centers. Duties include, but are not limited to, repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of recirculation/filtration systems and chemical feeding systems, pumps, valves, motors, backflow valves; and controllers; and cleaning facilities.
  2. Performs general maintenance duties, such as painting, minor plumbing work; rust removal; trash and debris removal; repairing or replacing brick pavers; re-sanding; etc.
  3. Performs duties for maintaining a cleaning supplies and essential work tools. Duties may include ordering supplies and keeping supply lists. Responsible proper supply, storage, mixing and use of related chemicals to ensure the safety of City Staff and property, guests, visitors, vendors, and the general public.
  4. Performs additional duties as assigned.


  • Required knowledge and experience is normally obtained through the completion of a curriculum resulting in either a High School Diploma or GED, and one (1) year work related experience in swimming pool operations, maintenance and repair are required.
  • Lifeguard Certification and Standard First Aid and CPR Certification are required within 6 months of hire.
  • One (1) year experience post certification preferred.
  • Must exhibit attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
  • Must be able to communicate and present oneself in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to perform mathematical calculations with respect to dosages and chemical mixing and use.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently operate tools used to perform duties.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City employees and officials, and the general public.
  • Ability to take and follow oral instructions.
  • Ability to read, understand and apply manuals and instructions.
  • Ability to write and keep reports.
  • Knowledge of the practices methods, materials and tools utilized in the repair and services of various types of mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical theory used to repair and maintain equipment and electronic components.
  • Knowledge of local, State and Federal safety and health requirements for aquatic facilities.
  • Skilled in swimming.
  • Skilled in the operation of swimming pools.


  • Must possess a Valid Florida Class E driver license.
  • Must pass applicable pre-employment testing and background and credit checks.


This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
