POSITION FUNCTION:


Under the direction of the Information Technology Director, performs duties necessary to support the daily operations
of the Information Technology Department. Duties include, but are not limited to the installation, administration,
security, and support of hardware, software, server, network, telecommunication, web site, desktop and/or
audio/visual equipment; writing scripts and batch files; data analysis; security systems; technical writing (e.g. "howto"
documentation); training; and systems integration. Position is a lead position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


         1. Performs duties necessary to support the daily operations of the Information Technology Department to
             ensure the proper installation, administration, security, and support of hardware, software, server, network,
             telecommunication, web site, desktop and/or audio/visual equipment; writing scripts and batch files; data
             analysis; security systems; technical writing (e.g. "how-to" documentation); training; and systems
             integration.
        2. Performs assigned duties necessary to assist with project, vendor contract, asset, and license tracking,
            allocating and managing. Duties include, but are not limited to, preparation of requests for proposals,
            research, and costs analysis; and vendors to resolve hardware, applications, and systems issues.
        3. Performs assigned duties necessary for coordinating and implementing end user support and training. Duties
            include, but are not limited to, troubleshooting, monitoring and resolving application and/or equipment
            issues.
        4. Assists with the preparation, tracking and administration of the Information Technology Department's annual
            budget, to include forecasting expenditures of related goods and services. Assists with procurement of goods
            and services.
        5. Performs additional duties as assigned.

ENVIRONMENT:


Duties are performed primarily within an office environment or setting. Possible exposure to dust, mold, allergens,
and electrical hazards.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Required knowledge and experience is normally obtained through the completion of an advanced education
    from an accredited educational institution of higher learning resulting in a Bachelors Degree in Information
    Technology, Computer Science or related field, and five (5) to seven (7) years of work related experience are
    required.
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), and/or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
    certifications is/are preferred.
  • Work requires the ability to read and write letters, memos, contracts, and data analysis.
  • Work requires the ability to understand and develop computer models for cost analysis and compose budgetary
    reports.
  • Work requires substantial independent judgment and decision-making.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to read and understand technical manuals, Federal and State regulations, and City policies and
    procedure manuals.
  • Ability to remain up-to-date on Federal, State and City regulations, best practices and policies affecting
    department activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City and other public
    employees, public officials, contractors, consultants, vendors, media, and the general public.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and other job related software.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of various computer systems and information technology related to
    multi-platforms and servers.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  •  Must possess a valid Florida Class E driver license.
  •  Must pass applicable pre-employment testing an background checks. 
        

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
